Fuerzas y Túnel is aimed to gather the Spanish scientific community that work on different topics using a common tool: the scanning probe microscopy (SPM). The atomic scale spatial resolution makes this technique central in many fields in nanoscience, with applications that range from solid state physics to materials sciences, surface chemistry and biology.

Following a series of conferences that started in Barcelona in 1998, the next one will be held in Girona from 5 to 7 September 2016. A wide range of scientific topics will be covered in dedicated sessions to atomic force microscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy and theory of local probes techniques.

We invite you to join us in Fuerzas y Túnel 2016 in Girona to take the opportunity to gather with the SPM community, and follow the latest advances in SPM and their applications.

Conference place:

The Workshop will take place at the Palau de Congressos de Girona, located right next to the peaceful Parc de la Devesa, the very green heart of the city of Girona. Palau de Congressos is at 10 min walking from the AVE train station and the city center. Girona is a small city in which most interesting places are within walking distance, or easily reachable by bus.

Accomodation

Our commitment with the participation of students and the encouragement to consolidate this meeting as the reference conference for the whole SPM community converges in the offer of a Full Registration option with all included at really competitive prices. For this option, the housing will be at Residencia RESA Montilivi Girona.

The Residence Hall is 15 min from the bus and train station (Pza. Espanya) by bus, taking L10 from Estació d’Autobusos/RENFE to La Creu de Palau bus station. Connection between the residence hall and the conference center is also very convenient by taking bus L1 from Residencia d’Estudiants bus stop to Jutjats bus stop, and then enjoying a nice walk along the Parc de la Devesa to the Palau de Congressos de Girona. You can find detailed information of timings and maps here. It is recommended to buy a bus ticked T-10 1 zone (10.70 €) to cover all bus travels inside Girona city.

How to get to Girona, Spain

By plane:

Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO):

About 20 min drive from Girona. Small airport with international connections to European airports, mainly by RyanAir. A regular bus (line 607) running every hour connects Girona-Costa Brava airport and Girona city for about 2.75 euros (tickets sold directly at the bus). The bus time table is available here and at www.segales.com.

Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN):

75 minutes drive from Girona. International airport with connections to all Spanish airports. Connection to Girona city can be done by AVE from Barcelona Sants train Station (see special discount on AVE tickets for all conference attendants). T1 of Barcelona airport is connected to Barcelona - Sants train station by direct shuttle bus, or by tube (L9 with transfer in Collblanc to L5). It is possible to directly reach Barcelona – Sants Train Station from T2 by train, RENFE line R2.

By train:

The Adif train station “Girona” is in the center of Girona, close to Onyar river. It offers connections to several Spanish cities, including Zaragoza, Madrid and Barcelona. We strongly recommend choosing train connection by AVE to the city and take advantage of the special discount rate of 25% offered in ALL AVE tickets to all conference attendants. Details on the discount code to be used will be given in the confirmation e-mail after registration process.

By car:

The city is connected to the rest of Spain by the AP7 (Mediterráneo highway). Once in Girona, the Palau de Congressos de Girona is easily accessible from exit 6B Girona Oest (Girona O).

The housing will be at the RESA Residencia Universitaria Campus de Montivili. There are a limited number of rooms available, so the organization will process the registrations in the first-come first-served basis. The registration option including accommodation is only warranted until the Early Bird Registration Deadline 15 June 2016 (reduced prices). After this deadline, the organization reserves the right to remove this registration option.

Information for Presenters

Oral:

Oral presentation slots are 45 minutes long for invited speakers (40 + 5 min for discussion and change to the next presentation), and 20 minutes for contributed speakers (15 + 5 min for discussion and change to the next presentation).
A projector and computer will be available for regular presentations.
Speakers using the available computer are requested to upload their presentations from a USB stick at the latest at the beginning of the coffee break preceding their session. For morning sessions, speakers must upload their presentation files at the latest at 8:30 am in the morning on the day of the presentation. To avoid software compatibility problems (MS Powerpoint), speakers are advised to additionally bring a PDF-version of their presentation.

Poster:

Maximum poster size is A0 portrait (84 cm wide, 119 cm high). We will supply material for mounting the posters.
